Northumberland Cultural Education Partnership (NCEP) is hosting an interactive creative careers event at Queen’s Hall, thanks to funding from the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority.

Small groups of Year 9 and Year 10 pupils from across Northumberland will take part in a range of workshops designed to inspire them to explore the variety of careers available within the creative and cultural sectors.

Pupils will take part in four 45-minute hands-on workshops, offering an introduction to different roles and pathways within the creative industries. Across the day, they will explore workshops such as gallery curation, filmmaking, art installation and technical lighting and sound for the stage.

The event will conclude with a Q&A panel, giving young people the opportunity to hear directly from industry professionals and ask their own questions about routes into creative careers.

Creative Careers Carousel 2026

Queen’s Hall Arts led the first event in partnership with Discover Creative Careers and the North East Combined Authority, hosting a Creative Careers Carousel at Queen’s Hall, Hexham, on Wednesday 4 February 2026.

Welcoming 225 Year 9 students from eight schools, the half-day event showcased career opportunities across the creative industries as students prepared to choose their GCSE options, while helping schools work towards Gatsby Benchmarks 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7.

Students took part in three 30-minute workshops, offering hands-on tasters of different creative careers. A panel discussion then explored pathways into the sector, with practical advice and top tips for turning creative ambitions into a career.

Chaired by acclaimed playwright, screenwriter and producer Garry Lyons, the panel brought together Helen Driver (Newcastle College), Steve Gilroy (Northumbria University), Trish Mayers (Backstage Builders) and Katy Taylor (Queen’s Hall).
