Hello and welcome to our inaugural Hexham Jazz Newsletter!

We’re delighted to launch this regular update to keep you up-to-date with what’s on, along with exciting offers and some general jazz talk!

In September, we welcomed the fantastic James Borland Quartet from London, featuring Young Jazz Musician of the Year finalist Nick Manz. With a gorgeous mix of originals and classics from the Great American Songbook, it was a tasteful and uplifting evening — “What a bunch of musicians!” as one audience member put it.

Next up, THIS SUNDAY, we’re thrilled to present the world-renowned Adrian Cox Trio, featuring guitarist Alex ‘Honey’ Boulton (what a delightful epithet!). Describing himself as a “clarinetist and storyteller rooted in the rhythms of New Orleans,”, Adrian Cox is truly something to behold. He’ll be introducing his new album Club Croco as part of an international tour with stops in Denmark, Sweden, Spain, London…and Hexham!

Looking ahead to November we have a double bill Lorne Lofsky + Nigel Price. Lorne Lofsky is a guitarist with international renown having played with and toured with the likes of Oscar Peterson, Chet Baker and Dizzy Gillespie. He joins UK guitarist Nigel Price for some fireworks steeped in the jazz tradition.

Later in the month, we have an international collaboration, Happenstance, based in Scandinavia with influences ranging from Wayne Shorter to the Beatles.

And don’t forget, our Exclusive Drink Offer for jazz audiences: buy three and get a fourth free! The White Room Bar opens an hour before each performance and during the interval and offers the perfect place to soak up the atmosphere.

Look out for our next newsletter, I leave you with a reminder from Art Blakey that “jazz washes away the dust of everyday life”, so keep supporting live jazz.

See you at the next gig!
