Paul Edis
- Main Information
A special fundraising performance for Core Music CIC, taking place as part of Hexham Jazz Weekender.
Described as ‘one of the leading lights in contemporary jazz’ Paul Edis is a natural melodist who finds the emotional resonance of every note. Rooted in the straight-ahead swinging tradition, his music has been played on the radio in the UK, US and Europe.
Edis moved to London in 2020 after over 15 years based in the Northeast of England, where he established his first trio and sextet. He recorded various albums under his own name, with both his sextet and trio, before making the move South.
Edis signed to Lateralize Records in 2021 and released a critically acclaimed album entitled 'The Still Point of the Turning World'. He recorded the album 'When Winter Turns To Spring' alongside vocalist Jo Harrop which won Best Album in the APJAG Parliamentary Jazz Awards 2023. In 2024 he released a new album alongside saxophonist and long-time collaborator Vasilis Xenopoulos called ‘Feels Like Home’, and his latest album entitled ‘Portrait In Evans’ is in collaboration with US vocalist Noa Levy, released in March 2026.
He has performed alongside leading jazz names including Jon Faddis, Alan Barnes, Bruce Adams, Nigel Price, Jim Mullen, Julian Siegel, Tony Kofi, Steve Waterman, Iain Ballamy and Mark Nightingale. He has a PhD in Composition and regularly receives commissions for new works. He also works regularly as a music educator, including projects for both the National Youth Jazz Collective and National Youth Jazz Orchestra, and he is a former Artist in Residence of Sage Gateshead.
