Zach Sewell + Lara Hopper Quintet

Zach Sewell is a London-based saxophonist and composer, whose quintet is characterised by rhythmically exciting writing and intense band interplay. Their original compositions reflect a varied pool of influences from jazz, gospel and the avant-garde, creating an exploratory and dynamic sound. Currently studying at Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London, members of the quintet have performed at Pizza Express Soho, Ronnie Scott’s, Oliver’s Jazz Club, Norwich Jazz Festival and EFG London Jazz Festival, as well as the Trinity Laban Student Union.

This project brings together some of the rising stars of the London jazz scene, Lara Hopper, Sophie Ford, Jesse Penny and Finlay Mackenzie, performing all-original music. Featuring Lara Hopper on trumpet, this gig is a rare opportunity to hear her play following an acclaimed performance at Hexham Jazz Festival.

Featuring fearless interplay, complex and boundary-pushing writing and intense forward momentum, the band has a unique sound on the scene today.
