Ruthie Henshall: The Showgirl and the Prince
- Main Information
Join Hexham Book Festival for an evening of backstage gossip from one of the UK’s foremost stage actresses, who also happened to be dating a member of the Royal Family during the height of the 1980s tabloid frenzy for any story involving the Royals.
Ruthie Henshall is a West End star: multiple Olivier Award nominations, and memorable performances in some of the most iconic musical theatre shows including Cats, Crazy for You, Fame and Miss Saigon. She won plaudits for playing all three major roles in Chicago, and has become a mentor and inspiration for generations of young musical theatre actors.
In 1988, at the start of her career, Ruthie was a chorus girl in Cats (third feline from the left) when she fell for Prince Edward, who was working for Andrew Lloyd Webber. The relationship had to remain a secret, whilst she went on to greater and greater success and acclaim.
