Tyne Valley favourite returns to Hexham
The last concert of the music society’s anniversary season sees the return to Hexham of the brilliant young pianist Khrystyna Mykhailichenko.
It’s three years since she last played at the Queen’s Hall and now, after three years at the Royal Academy of Music — and her first solo recital at London’s prestigious Wigmore Hall in June 2026, she returns with a new programme that includes three pinnacles of the solo piano repertoire.
Written at around the time of his mother’s death in 1788, Mozart’s eighth piano sonata is a remarkable work. Dramatic and sombre in parts, it is also touching and emotional.
Ravel’s Gaspard de la Nuit is famously one of the most difficult piano pieces ever written. The brilliance and invention in the piano writing are breathtaking.
Prokofiev’s Piano Sonata No. 8 is the last of the composer’s three ‘war sonatas’ written between 1939 and 1944 and ends with a fiery finale that will ‘knock your socks off’. Closing the 75th-anniversary season with a bang!
