RESIZE Our Freedom Comms Invitation Image

Monday – Saturday, 10am–4pm

Our Freedom: Then and Now is a national arts and creative programme that invited communities to reflect on what “Our Freedom” means today, marking the 80th anniversary of VE/VJ Day.

Led by Future Arts Centres, 60 Arts Centres and Libraries collaborated with commissioned artists and local communities to create meaningful cultural events, exhibitions and performances across the UK.

Queen’s Hall Arts worked with the community connected to RAF Spadeadam, a military base on the Northumberland–Cumbria border.

We commissioned local Creative Producer and Multimedia Participatory Artist Emma Tominey to lead a series of workshops, using Simon Armitage’s poem Freedom Road as a starting point and exploring what freedom meant to participants.

This exhibition offers the chance to learn more about Queen’s Hall Arts’ Our Freedom: Then & Now project, Freedom: Reframed. It also features powerful new Augmented Reality (AR) artworks created by Emma Tominey in response to conversations and workshops with the RAF Spadeadam community.

The Our Freedom programme is led by Future Arts Centres and delivered in partnership with Libraries Connected and Open Eye Gallery, supported using public funding by UK Government through Arts Council England.
