This first concert of the Hexham and District Music Society’s 2025-26 season sees the very welcome return to Hexham of Ensemble 360.

This versatile and unique group of 11 of the UK’s finest musicians was shortlisted for the Royal Philharmonic Society’s prestigious Ensemble Award in 2023. It celebrates its 20^th anniversary this year. 5 members, including the Corbridge Chamber Music Festival’s very own Robert Plane on clarinet, join us this afternoon.

At the heart of Ensemble 360’s programme is one of the masterpieces of the classical repertoire, Brahms’s tender and lyrical Clarinet Quintet.

Also on the programme is music by Beethoven and Shostakovich’s third string quartet, a work with which the composer proved himself to be one of the greatest quartet writers of the 20^th century.
