Imtiaz Dharker & Bloodaxe Books - Shadow Reader/Soul Feast

  • Sunday 5 May, 4.15pm
  • Tickets From £9
  • Main Theatre

This two-part event features Imtiaz Dharker reading from her new collection Shadow Reader and sharing a presentation of the new Bloodaxe anthology Soul Feast with editors Neil Astley and Pamela Robertson-Pearce.

Shadow Reader is a radiant criss-cross of encounters, messages and earthy Punjabi proverbs, shot through with the dark thread of an unwelcome prophecy. The poems bind this looming curse to the colonisation of countries, the earth and its creatures. Born in Pakistan, Imtiaz Dharker grew up a 'Muslim Calvinist' in a Lahori household in Glasgow, was adopted by India and later married into Wales.

Soul Feast is a companion anthology to Soul Food, offering up a further feast of thoughtful poems to stir the mind and feed the spirit, bringing hope and light in dark, uncertain times. This new compilation shows how poetry can help sustain our search for meaning in times of spiritual starvation.

Chaired by Neil Astley.
