The Sacconi Quartet are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year and touring the UK, playing some of their favourite works from their twenty years together. Their four founder members continue to demonstrate a shared passion for string quartet repertoire, infectiously reaching out to audiences with their energy and enthusiasm.

They are joined in Hexham by the talented Italian pianist, Emma Abbate, who has a busy international career as an accompanist and chamber musician working with some of the finest singers and instrumentalists of her generation.

Tonight's programme features two of the greatest piano quintets in the repertoire - those by Shostakovich and Elgar - and a movement from Rachmaninov's first attempt at a string quartet.

"This stunner from the Sacconi Quartet was all about letting the music speak." Classic FM

"An amazingly talented pianist." Musica

Rachmaninov  Romance (from String Quartet, no. 1)
