Fresh from the English Heritage exhibition Extraordinary Measures, Scalesdale is a fantasy miniature city which grew over a five month period from a tiny cluster of houses to an urban sprawl, driven by public vote. Belsay Hall visitors were posed questions that related closely to town planning issues and the consequences that result from our decision making.

Scalesdale is designed by Newcastle based Mosedale Gillatt architects and made by Stocksfield based Pete Young (Thingmaker).

Scalesdale was one of eight commissions funded by English Heritage, Arts Council England, One North East and the Northern Rock Foundation for Extraordinary Measures at Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens.
